This is a tool for quoting posts and comments in your comment on MetaFilter. It works on all the MeFi subsites as well. It does not work on any spinoff site, such as MetaChat.
Select a chunk of text in somebody's post or comment, click on the bookmarklet, and the text will automatically be pasted into the comment box, formatted as follows:

Make your browser's bookmarks bar visible and drag the following link into it: MetaFilter quoting tool
In Safari, any bookmarklet can be invoked from the keyboard if it's in one of the first nine items in the bookmark bar. Hit cmd-1, for example, if the bookmarklet is the first item. This allows access to bookmark(lets) even when the bookmark bar is hidden.

* The current official bookmarklet would cite the last person to use a particular phrase. It works badly with text selections involving very short or repeated phrases. This new version cites the person in the "posted by" in the text you copied. It will not attempt to trace backwards any quoted text in somebody's comment.
